Special Reading Classes

Some children need a little extra support to build confidence in reading and that is exactly what our Special Reading Classes are here to provide. Running alongside our book club meetings every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., these small, focused sessions are tailored to each child’s age and assessed reading level, creating a space where no child is left behind.

Through guided reading, personalised attention, and steady encouragement from our facilitators, children are given the freedom to learn at their own pace. There is no pressure, no comparison. Only the quiet, powerful work of building confidence one page at a time. In these sessions, children don’t just improve their reading; they begin to discover that reading can be something they actually enjoy.

Perhaps the most telling measure of our success is the journey some children take. A number of our Special Reading Classes participants have grown in confidence and ability to the point where they have moved on to join our main Book Club meetings, a milestone we celebrate with enormous pride. It is a reminder that with the right support, every child can progress.

This pathway, from extra support to full participation, sits at the very heart of what the Friendship Library stands for: meeting every child where they are, and walking with them toward where they can be.
