What We Do
Our Book Club Meetings
At the heart of the Friendship Library are our bi-weekly book club meetings. Safe, joyful spaces where children come together to read, connect, and grow. Every other Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., an average of 40 children walk through our doors, each placed in a group that matches their reading level. Guided by trained and caring volunteers, they explore age-appropriate books, build comprehension, and, perhaps most importantly, develop the confidence to call themselves readers
Special Reading Classes
Some children need a little extra support to build confidence in reading and that is exactly what our Special Reading Classes are here to provide. Running alongside our book club meetings every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., these small, focused sessions are tailored to each child’s age and assessed reading level, creating a space where no child is left behind.
Explore our Free Digital Library
Our Free Digital Library is an online application where children can explore and read a curated collection of books, organised by class and interest areas, completely free of charge. Every book on the platform has been thoughtfully selected to be age-appropriate, rooted in African culture, engaging, and matched to where a child is on their reading journey.
The Friendship Library Literacy Competition
The Friendship Library Literacy Competition is an annual celebration held every September in honour of World Literacy Day to pause, reflect, and cheer for how far every reader has come. Children aged 6 to 15 go head-to-head in book quizzes, vocabulary challenges, and a writing competition, with exciting prizes awaiting the top performers
Friendship Library in a Box
Not every child can come to the library. So, we bring the library to them. Friendship Library in a Box places curated mini-libraries directly into classrooms in underserved schools and puts personal book sets into the hands of children who have none at home. Wherever a child is, we believe they deserve access to stories.
Literacy Activities
At the Friendship Library, we offer a rich variety of activities designed to spark curiosity, celebrate identity, and make learning feel like an adventure
